Prepared CEO & Custodian George Love In Media Spotlight!
It’s been a while since we’ve updated the site. A lot has happened! Most notably, Prepared’s George Love has made several media appearances over the past several months.
It all started when a local St. Louis news station caught wind of Mr. Love’s high school scholarship program. After being featured in a brief news clip, Mr. Love was contacted by other Missouri-based networks. Since then, Mr. Love’s Vashon high school scholarship campaign has made headlines around the country.

“A group of students at Vashon High School have been awarded scholarships for college, all thanks to their school custodian.
According to the students, Vashon custodian George Love is well-liked. Love and his wife, Stephanie, started the Dorothy May scholarship, named after his mother, to offer supplemental $500 scholarships to college-bound students.

For years he and his wife have run a non-profit that he admits has never seen a single donation, giving out juice boxes and other small supplies to people in need.
“When it came to me I knew that I would have to save the money,” Love recalls.

Working for less than $12 an hour, Love decided to start and fund his own college scholarship for graduating seniors.

The couple have used their own money for the fund, news outlets reported, but they’ve also received help from a nonprofit George Love runs, called Prepared: The Gateway of the Northwest. A GoFundMe pagerecently helped raised thousands of dollars for scholarships.
St. Louis Public Schools notes that Love’s organization also has donated tens of thousands of drinks to elementary and middle schools.

Love describes the school as a sweaty, dark place — but says that’s the kind of place that produces diamonds. “There are a lot of diamonds here. I find myself working in a diamond field,” Love says, referring to the students.
The students who receive the scholarship are picked by a committee made up of two school counselors, as well as a baseball coach. Throughout the year, the committee observes the students and searches for those that meet the criteria.

Love is giving four graduating seniors $500 checks to help launch their college careers. Criteria for winning the award is based only partly on grades. They acknowledge effort as well.
One student says the money will allow him to buy the new computer he needs for nursing school.
“I hope this is something that can inspire them for the rest of their lives,” said Love. “Them seeing somebody reach out and give, from money that I saved that came from the end of a broom and a mop.”
